Book Review: Never Never by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher
Genre: YA Mystery / Romantic Suspense
Vibe: You’re in love with someone you don’t even recognize—and something is seriously wrong.
Let’s just say: I devoured this in one weekend and still don’t know how I feel. (But I’m definitely feeling something.)
Never Never starts with a jolt—two teens wake up in the middle of their lives with no memory of who they are, who they are to each other, or what exactly is going on. From page one, it’s all secrets, tension, and a race against time. Oh, and amnesia. Lots of amnesia.
This one leans hard into the surreal, “what the hell is happening?” energy. It’s romantic, but it’s also eerie—like walking through a dream that could turn into a nightmare at any moment. There are notes passed under desks, mysterious clues left behind by past versions of themselves, and the sinking feeling that someone (or something) doesn’t want them to remember.
It’s the kind of story where the relationship is the anchor, but the mystery keeps pulling you deeper. The ending? Frustrating—but in that classic Hoover/Fisher way where you’re compelled to pick up the next book immediately. Time will tell if books 2 & 3 hold the answers.
Read if you like:
Messy, emotionally tangled romances with a dark twist
Teen love but with existential dread
Fast-paced stories that refuse to give you answers easily
A little paranormal, a little mystery, a lot of “wait, WHAT?”
Final thoughts:
Perfect for fans of romantasy and psychological thrillers who don’t mind being a little confused, a little devastated, and deeply invested. The vibes are strong, the twists are wild, and the memory loss is somehow romantic? Worth the read, but might not warrant a revisit.
Rating: 3/5
Best read when you’re in the mood to question reality and maybe cry a little.
